The University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers a strong Food Science and Technology program, located at the state of the art Food Innovation Center. This program combines biology, chemistry, engineering, and nutrition to prepare students for various careers in the food industry, research, and health related fields. Undergraduate students can choose from tracks focused on food technology or food and health, with hands on experiences available through the department’s processing and sensory labs. Graduate programs at the master’s and doctoral levels offer research opportunities in food safety, microbiology, biotechnology, and human health.
With strong industry partnerships and advanced facilities, UNL’s food science program equips students with the practical skills and scientific knowledge needed to address real world food system challenges. They have a program for internships, allowing them to make ice cream year round. They buy pasteurized milk because it is more profitable than making their own. They do food allergy testing for all allergens, research, cross-contamination and microbial.
